What do I wear?
You will see a wide range of clothing at the Symphony. Generally, wearing business casual (slacks, skirts and a nice shirt) will suffice, yet don't feel bashful about dressing up in something more formal!

Where should I park? Do you validate parking?
There is adequate parking East of George Daily Auditorium in the High School parking lot. If that is full then you can park south of that lot in the Jr. High lot.

See our Parking Map for a clear illustration of parking area.

What restaurants do you recommend?
There is a wide variety of restaurants to choose from in the Oskaloosa area. Here are just a few:

The Peppertree - Casual dining atmosphere that offers steaks and burgers as well as other great menu choices. Located in a quiet area of oskaloosa north of town, the Peppertree is a great choice to round out your visit to the orchestra.

Spaghetti's Restaurant - Italian dining that includes family style meals and great pasta dishes. Loacted on the West side of Oskaloosa, Spaghetti's is a great choice for completing the evening.

Taso's Steakhouse - Offering a wide range of dish selections from steak to pizza. Located near the historic downtown square, Taso's is sure to make your evening memorable.

Mia Ranchito - Looking to spice up the evening. Mia Ranchito offers a fantastic Mexican menu as well as fast and friendly service.

There are many other choices in town as well.

How long are performances?
Classical, Pops and Chamber performances run approximately two hours.

What is the age limit for children?
Children are welcome to attend all Classical, Chamber, Pops, Special Events performances. Some of our concerts are programmed especially for children ages 3 and up. The Oskaloosa Symphony has a performance for everyone!

What time do the doors open?
The outside doors of George Daily Auditorium general open one hour prior to performances.

What is your student discount policy?
We offer discounted student tickets of $7 to many performances. For details visit our Student page.

What time should I be in my seat?
Performances begin promptly, so please plan on arriving at least 15-20 minutes early. Latecomers will be seated at the first appropriate break in the program as determined by the conductor.

What is your exchange / refund policy?
If you have purchased tickets but are unable to use them, you may exchange them for another upcoming symphony show.

If you have no interest in exchanging tickets or receiving a credit towards an upcoming performance, you may choose to use the price of the returned tickets as a tax contribution.

If a performance has already occurred, unused tickets may not be exchanged, used for credit, nor used for a tax contribution.

What are the rules for etiquette and applause?
Arrive in plenty of time to take your seat before the performance begins. We recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to start time in order to use the restroom, find your seats, peruse the playbill, and read the program notes to learn a little more about the music that evening. You may also be interested in attending pre-performance lectures that provide in-depth views into the composer, the music and other interesting facts not included in the program notes.

Performances begin promptly at the announced starting time. In deference to patrons seated in the hall, latecomers will be seated after the first work has been played in its entirety. (The first work is usually the shortest of the program.) We ask your cooperation as ushers adhere to this policy.

Prior to the performance, please turn off all audio alerts including watch alarms, cell phones, and pagers. If needed, please give any of these items to the house manager, along with your seating location.

Applause:
It is customary to applaud when the conductor enters the stage. You may take this cue from those who can see the conductor's entrance. Most symphonies are broken into movements, with a slight pause indicating the end of one movement and the beginning of the next. As a standard practice, applause is held until after all movements of the piece have been completed. If you are unclear as to when the piece has been completed, simply wait until the music has stopped and the conductor has turned around to face the audience. If you just can't restrain your enthusiasm for a particular movement, feel free to clap at its conclusion!

The Performance:
An orchestra performance can be a place of solace, and a temporary escape from daily worries, a place to clear your mind of excess clutter. A quiet demeanor during the performance helps all involved to maintain a state of clarity, relaxation, and enjoyment. Extraneous noises such as extensive conversation, opened candy wrappers, a snapped latch of your purse or eyeglass case, or a falling playbill hitting the floor can cause a distraction to that clarity and enjoyment. If you must talk, please use a very quiet whisper.

After a phenomenal performance by the whole ensemble or a particular performer, you may wish to shout 'Bravo!.' Your enthusiasm enlivens the spirit of a performance and spurs the artists on to even greater musical feats. 'Bravo!' is for a single male performer; 'Brava!' applies to a female performer; and 'Bravi!' (pronounced brav-ee ) is the call of approbation for two or more performers.

Artists:
Audience members are not permitted on-stage or backstage before, during or after a performance. If you are personally acquainted with one of the artists and wish to meet this person after the performance, please ask an usher if musicians are receiving visitors backstage at George Daily Auditorium.

All casting and guest artists are subject to change.

Food, Beverages and Smoking:
Food and beverages may be enjoyed in the lobby, but only bottled water is allowed in the concert hall. Due to federal regulations, smoking is not permitted in George Daily Auditorium.

Miscellaneous:
Lost articles may be claimed at security.

For your own safety and the safety of other patrons, please do not exit the hall/theatre before the house lights are up.

In the event of an emergency, please remain seated, and listen for instructions given by management and ushers. George Daily auditorium exits are located on right and left sides of the auditorium. Please identify the exit closest to your location.

Any use of cameras and recording equipment in the hall/theatre which are not authorized by the management in writing are strictly prohibited.
